How we review Kentucky sportsbooks, what sources we use, how we handle affiliate disclosures, when we update content, and how we process corrections. Anything we publish should be traceable to one of these standards.

Review Framework

How We Score Kentucky Sportsbooks

Every Kentucky-licensed sportsbook is evaluated on the same six criteria with the same weights. The final star rating is a weighted composite. Individual criterion scores are not displayed publicly but inform the strengths and weaknesses sections of each operator review.

25%

Market Depth & Pricing

How many sports does the operator cover? How many markets per game? Are the lines competitive with other Kentucky books? We track odds across operators on representative games to compare hold percentages.

20%

Welcome Bonus Value

Expected value of the welcome offer for a typical Kentucky bettor, accounting for rollover requirements, bonus bet vs cash structure, expiration windows, and conditional triggers (if-loss vs if-win vs guaranteed).

20%

Mobile App Quality

iOS and Android store ratings, our own hands-on testing of bet placement speed, live betting refresh rate, deposit/withdrawal UX, biometric login, and reliability during peak NFL Sunday volume.

15%

Banking & Payouts

Available deposit methods, withdrawal speed (we time actual withdrawals on our own test accounts where possible), minimum deposit, supported Play+ programs, PayPal/Venmo availability in Kentucky.

10%

Ongoing Promotions

Daily odds boosts, parlay insurance, profit boosts, event-based promos. We track these monthly to identify operators that reward retained users vs operators that focus only on welcome bonuses.

10%

Customer Support

24/7 live chat availability, response time to email queries, KY-specific phone support, in-person support at retail partner locations.

Sources

Where Our Information Comes From

Primary regulator

Kentucky Horse Racing Commission for licensing status, regulatory rulings, and operator approvals. All "X is licensed in Kentucky" claims trace to KYHRC.

Operator websites

For bonus structures, deposit/withdrawal methods, terms and conditions. We re-verify operator terms quarterly and on material changes.

Mainstream sports outlets

For race results, game outcomes, and major sports betting industry news. We require corroboration across at least two reputable outlets (ESPN, NBC, CBS, Yahoo Sports, NPR, etc.) before publishing race results.

Legislative records

Kentucky General Assembly records for HB 551, HB 904, and any sports-betting-related bills. We cite specific bill numbers and signing dates.

App stores

Apple App Store and Google Play for current app ratings. Updated when we refresh operator reviews.

Hands-on testing

Our team maintains accounts at all 8 reviewed Kentucky sportsbooks for hands-on app testing, withdrawal time verification, and customer support evaluation.

Our Operational Policies

Affiliate Disclosure

BettingInKY contains affiliate links to licensed Kentucky sportsbooks. When you sign up through one of our links, we may receive a commission from the operator. This commission does not affect your bonus, your odds, or any other aspect of your account. Our review rankings are based solely on the 6-criterion framework above, weighted as shown. We have refused affiliate partnerships from operators who insisted on review-ranking influence; we accept partnerships only on terms that preserve editorial independence.

Conflict of Interest

Members of our editorial team are forbidden from holding equity in any licensed Kentucky sportsbook operator or its parent company while writing for BettingInKY. Team members who receive comp'd hospitality (free meals, hotel rooms, race tickets) from operators must disclose this internally and recuse themselves from reviews of that operator for 12 months following the benefit.

Update Cadence

Operator reviews: refreshed quarterly, plus any time a major change occurs (new bonus structure, new app version, new retail partner, regulatory action). Sport pages: refreshed at the start of each season. Race coverage: pre-race versions updated as confirmed entries publish; post-race results updated within 24 hours of the race. Legal/regulatory pages: refreshed within 7 days of any KY legislative action.

Correction Policy

When a factual error is brought to our attention or discovered internally, we verify, correct, and update the "Last updated" date on the affected page within 48 hours. Material corrections (incorrect bonus amounts, wrong operator details, misstated race results) include a brief correction note at the bottom of the affected page indicating what was changed and when. Typo-level corrections are silent.

Fairness to Operators

Every Kentucky-licensed operator gets reviewed on the same 6-criterion framework. Operators we score lower (Circa Sports, theScore Bet) are not "bad books" by any reasonable definition; they simply target different user segments. We strive to describe each operator's strengths and weaknesses accurately rather than as winners and losers.

User Privacy

BettingInKY uses minimal first-party analytics (Cloudflare Web Analytics or similar privacy-respecting tools, not Google Analytics with cross-site tracking). We do not require account creation. We do not sell or share data about our visitors. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Common Questions

Editorial Policy FAQ

Do affiliate commissions affect your reviews?

No. Our review rankings are based on a six-criterion framework (market depth, bonus value, app quality, banking, ongoing promos, customer support) with fixed weights. Commission size from any individual operator does not enter the scoring calculation. We have refused affiliate partnerships from operators who insisted on review-ranking influence.

How often are operator reviews updated?

Operator reviews are refreshed at least quarterly, plus any time a material change occurs: new welcome bonus structure, new app version, new retail partnership, regulatory action, or expansion to/from Kentucky. The "Last updated" date at the bottom of each review page shows when content was last refreshed.

What is your correction policy?

When a factual error is identified, we verify, correct, and update the "Last updated" date within 48 hours. Material corrections (wrong bonus amounts, incorrect operator details, misstated race results) include a brief correction note at the bottom of the affected page. We invite corrections via [email protected].

Do you accept paid content or sponsored posts?

No. BettingInKY does not publish sponsored content, paid reviews, or operator-funded articles. All content is editorially independent. The only commercial relationship we have with operators is standard affiliate partnerships, where we earn commission on new-user signups but retain full editorial control over our coverage of those operators.

Are your race results verified?

Yes. Race results (Kentucky Derby, Preakness, Belmont, Oaks, Breeders' Cup) are verified against at least two mainstream sports outlets before publishing. We cite our sources where appropriate and update within 24 hours of race conclusion. We have explicitly declined to publish unverified pre-race speculation as fact.

How do you handle operator relationships?

We maintain working contacts with all 8 reviewed Kentucky operators for fact-verification purposes. These relationships are explicitly limited to fact-verification and do not extend to editorial input on our coverage. Operators are welcome to send corrections, but we evaluate them on merit and verify independently before publishing changes.
